Recently I was talking to a coworker about her fitness routine. She was saying that she doesn’t love her lunchtime kickboxing class and wishes she could find a Jazzercise class that would fit into her schedule. I suggested she invite a Jazzercise teacher to our office sometime to teach us during lunch. She looked at me matter-of-factly and said, No one here would do Jazzercise. They’re into snobby fitness classes—like yoga. I think it was at that moment that she realized that she was, in fact, talking to one of those yoga snobs because she quickly followed with a Just kidding! We both knew that she was as serious as a heart attack. It made me smile because I couldn’t agree with her more. Yoga does have a reputation for being a bit snobby and pretentious.
Resnica je, da če pred 10 leti ne bi začel poučevanja joge, mislim, da bi me težko prepričal, da bi ga poskusil danes. Studii so videti kot zdravilišča. Študenti joge imajo tako napredne prakse Asane, bolj zastrašujoče kot navdihujoče. Praksa je postala sinonim za zastrašujoče čisti življenjski slog, ki zajema trajnost, veganstvo in dviga se s soncem. Ampak, res. Kdo pravzaprav vse to počne? Dobro mi je, da samo jem zelenjavo in vsak dan dobim nekaj poz. Vem, da je na tone drugih enako obsedenih ljudi, ki so takšni kot jaz.
Rad bi postavil rekord naravnost in razkril prodorne mite o jogi za vse tiste ljudi, ki se bojijo poskusiti, ker mislijo, da je to zanje, pretenciozno ali kako drugače nedostopno.
Joga je za prilagodljive ljudi. Yoga isn’t about how flexible you are. Really. If you show up and just do what you can you’ll see that there’s just as much focus on strength, mindfulness, and balance. Improving flexibility is just a small part of a yoga class.
Joga je namenjena dekletom. Ne. Obstaja na tone fantov, ki vadijo jogo. To vključuje najpomembnejše moške, kot so športniki, marinci in zvezdniki, kot je Alec Baldwin.
Joga je za zdravstvene orehe. Nekaj je v praksi joge, ki povečuje vašo ozaveščenost in si prizadeva za bolj zdrave stvari zase. Zelo pogosto ležim v Savasani in sanjam, kakšno superhrano lahko dam v svoj post jogijski smoothie. Vendar biti zdravstveni oreš ni zahteva za študente joge. Lahko jeste hitro hrano za vsak obrok in še vedno pridobite velike koristi od joge - samo ne bodite presenečeni, če se to nekaj, kar postopoma premakne, bolj vadite.
Joga je za bogate ljudi. Seveda, obstajajo razredi, ki stanejo 20, 100 dolarjev joga hlač, in najlepše joga umike, ki jih lahko predstavljate. Toda samo zato, ker te stvari obstajajo, še ne pomeni, da se morate udeležiti njihovega vadbe joge - in če imate sredstva za sodelovanje v njih, vas ne bo bolj predan ali zavzet študent joge.
Yogis me bodo sodili, ker sem: Ne morete narediti poz/ne nosite pravih oblačil/jejte piškote/recite prekletstva/pijte alkohol/ne vozite Prius/itd . This one might be true. But if you feel judged in one class, leave immediately and try a different class, different studio, or different teacher! (Seriously… even if it’s during Savasana.) There are SO many different kinds of classes with so many different vibes I promise you can find one that’s welcoming and just your speed.
